Services I Use
Are you an aspiring creator interested in starting your own blog or other platform? Here are all the products and services I use to make this project happen.
Do you dream of becoming a creator? JUST DO IT! You’ll figure it out as you go. It’s a lot easier to steer a boat that is already moving than one that is dead in the water!
Squarespace - Website Services
I built this website using Squarespace. I know WordPress is a popular option for bloggers, but I found Squarespace has 99% of the features I was looking for. I don’t have to worry about hosting, there are no buggy plugins to worry about, and I don't need to keep track of which updates or patches need to be applied. Everything looks good on desktop or mobile. It’s pretty much plug and play. For a simpleton Sasquatch like me, that’s important!
IStock Photo - Stock Pictures
As an amateur blogger and video creator, I don’t have a huge back catalog of pictures and B Roll that a professional media company would. Sometimes I need a specific picture or some filler footage for a section of video that I’m rambling on a bit too long in. Stock Photo works great for this! You can start and stop your subscription as needed so you aren’t always seeing a monthly charge when you don’t need the service.
Zoom - Group Calls and Recording Interviews
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that everybody uses Zoom! I use Zoom for hosting game nights with my friends, but moving forward I plan to record interviews with people. Zoom is a great tool for that too, so stay tuned. More to come soon!
Amazon Affiliates Program
I think everybody starts with Amazon. They sell basically everything. Almost everybody has an account or has at least purchased something from them. I’m going to be honest. You probably aren’t going to get rich off Amazon Affiliate links, but it can help pay for website hosting, software, camera upgrades, etc. It’s pretty easy to use, and it’s a good way to learn the ropes.
Advice for Anyone Who Wants to Become a Creator
Go for it!
Don’t wait to buy all the “perfect gear.” (Some great content is made with just a smartphone!) Don’t wait for people to tell you you’re good enough or for the perfect moment the stars all line up. Just organize your thoughts, and get typing, filming, or whatever it is you want to accomplish. It’s really that easy. We are our own worst critics. Just by trying to be a helpful human, you will most likely be well received!
